April 3rd Bead Weaving Class - Boys' Day Carp

I'm happy and nervous to announce that I will be teaching a bead weaving design class at Ben Franklin Crafts, Pearl City. The first class will be on Friday, April 3, from 5 pm - 7 pm. The cost of the class is $15.00 and it will include all the materials needed to complete the project.

For this first session, I will be providing instructions on how to make a Boys' Day Carp charm/pendant very similar to the one show below. Boys' Day, now known as Childrens' Day, is celebrated on May 5. In Hawai'i, you often see bright carp flags festively flying in front of homes to wish health, happiness and success upon the children who reside there. Now you can make your own handcrafted beaded carp to wear as a necklace pendant or use as a charm.

I chose this particular design because it is one of the simpler patterns - great for those new to bead weaving. I will be using larger size 8, Delica seed beads, rather than my usual tiny size 11 beads, because it is easier to handle plus we will be working in the outdoor courtyard where lighting may not be ideal for teeny-weeny beads. But still, remember your eye glasses.

To inquire about this project, feel free to email me at To register for the class, please sign up at Ben Franklin Crafts, 850 Kamehameha. Hwy. Pearl City. Phone: 455-1909.

I hope to see you there!!!
